About Us
We are a small group of volunteers that wanted to do something to help our furry friends in Adams County Ohio. We started transporting dogs from the Adams County Dog Pound to Veterinary Hospitals and to Rescues. It's really been a rewarding experience to help these dogs, and now cats, get a second chance to have a good life in a loving home. You can follow us on Facebook and check out what we are doing and what we have accomplished!

Owner Surrenders in Adams County Ohio
A work in progress.... An Adams County Ohio man was arrested,
Thursday 1/15/2014, and many dogs were found in his house. The owner has
surrendered all of his dogs to the county. The house was in terrible
shape with all of these dogs living in there. ACORN Adams County Ohio
Rescue Network is helping the county take care of these dogs and
puppies. The dog warden has been very busy with this case. He brought 6
female, 1 male, and 9 puppies (Shih Tzu) to one of our fosters.
More dogs and puppies are still coming in. We need help to care for all
of them until rescue can be found. Transportation and vetting costs are
really taking a toll on our small organization. We need donations to
help care and get these babies to rescue.
Please give what you can to help! Thank you!
You can follow the story as it unfolds on our Facebook page.

After talking with the dog warden, I've learned that the owner surrendered all of his dogs after he was arrested. There are more dogs being picked up today. There are 4 more Shih Tzus, a full blooded Boxer, and a Boxer/Pit Bull Terrier Mix. 22 dogs total that will need new homes. Please be patient as we get these dogs and puppies. They will be held for a couple of weeks to get evaluated, vetted, spayed, and neutered. We will post where to apply for adoption soon. Thanks for all of your help and generosity!

ADAMS COUNTY OHIO CINDERELLA STORY
HAPPY ENDINGS!!! In February 2013, Lady came to the Adams County Ohio Dog Pound in a state of horrible neglect and abuse. A woman had called the pound to tell them that a dog had wandered into her yard. Lady had an embedded harness, had gashes on her from beatings, and was terribly thin, when she was picked up by the dog warden, Paul Hughes. He carefully cut off the harness from Lady and realized that she could not stay in the pound with these severe injuries. Paul asked Mary Prater-Bevens, of Sacred Hearts Animal Rescue & Sanctuary in Adams County, to take Lady into her rescue. Then he called Ed and Melva Jo Kimball, Lickety Split Pet Transport of ACORN Adams County Ohio Rescue Network, and asked them to transport Lady to Mary. You could already tell that Lady knew she was in a much better place when she arrived at Mary's home. Lady only tensed up once and flinched, when she heard a tab popped on a can of soda. We can only guess that Lady had been raised in the home of a drunk. Lady no longer had to fear, because she was in good hands with Mary. Mary gave Lady special care, medical treatment, and love while she recovered. Yesterday, on August 17, 2013, at the Paws-A-Palooza adoption event in Middletown, Ohio, Lady found her forever home with Jacob. Jacob's dog had died 2 years ago and it was time for Jacob to make a new friend. Jacob spent most of the afternoon with Mary and her dogs. Lady was waiting patiently for her turn to meet Jacob. When it was her turn, you could tell it was a match made in heaven! Seeing these two bond together was amazing! Jacob and his family adopted Lady! Now, Lady has a wonderful new boy, who may not see with his eyes, but most definitely sees with his heart! Jacob loves our Lady and Lady loves Jacob. We are so happy for them. It brings tears to our eyes every time we think of this true Cinderella story! What a great day at PAWS-A-PALOOZA! And, what a great day for all of us of ACORN who work together to make these HAPPY ENDINGS!!! ACORN Adams County Ohio Rescue Network consists of all of our volunteers in the county from the warden at the pound, the crossposters, the transporters, the fosters, the rescues, and all of our friends and fans that love animals and want to help them in any way they can. We work hard to save them and can really use this $5000 prize to continue our work in this very rural county in Southern Ohio.
I entered Lady and Jacob's story and photo in a contest hosted by Tractor Supply Co. on their Facebook page. 5 lucky winners will win $5,000 each for their local rescue organization/shelter. It takes all of us who are a part of the ACORN Adams County Ohio Rescue Network working together to make these happy endings come to pass.
Telling Lady and Jacob's story has inspired me. I'm so glad I was able to see Lady's happy ending! Please vote if you have also been inspired by Lady and Jacob's story.
SHARE AND VOTE EVERY DAY!!! VOTING ENDS AUGUST 25, 2013!!! THANKS!!!

ACORN CELEBRATON!!!
ACORN
Adams County Ohio Rescue Network is into our 7th month of being a
Facebook page and community group. We have accomplished so much in such a
short period of time! Most of us had already been working hard in Adams
County Ohio to help save lives. That has been our goal and we have done
a good job! We have collectively worked hard to not only get dogs and
puppies out of our small rural dog pound, but to keep them out of the pound! One small spark has grown into a flame!!!
WE HAVE LOWERED THE KILL RATE IN OUR ADAMS COUNTY OHIO DOG POUND TO 2%!!!
We couldn't have done this without all of the help from our Volunteers. They work on the scene and behind the scene to make this happen! We have several local Rescues working in the county, as well as many long distance Rescues taking in our dogs and puppies and finding them forever homes. We have had many Adopters give a forever home to our dogs and puppies. We have many Volunteers in the county that have taken in strays and have asked us for help to get them into good homes. We have a few Fosters that keep our dogs and puppies in their homes, giving them loving care till they are ready to go on transport to their rescue. We couldn't do it without our Transporters that take our dogs and puppies on their freedom rides! We couldn't do it without all of our Crossposters that work hard in sharing our photos giving our dogs and puppies lots of exposure so they can be saved. They are from everywhere across the country sharing, tagging, and pledging in an effort that saves lives everyday!
Adams County Ohio has a brand new animal shelter built by the Humane Society of Adams County. Once it is open and in full operation, just think how many more lives will be saved, including all of our local kitties!!!
WE WANT TO THANK ALL OF OUR ACORN FAMILY AND FRIENDS FOR MAKING THIS POSSIBLE!
WE COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOU!!!
Please invite your friends and share our page so we can continue to save more lives!!!

Thank You Christine Troutman!
Christine
Troutman was a forerunner in establishing the Humane Society of Adams
County Ohio. She served not only as a board member, but also as Humane
Officer for many years. Her goal has been to help animals in need and
see a new shelter get built. She has accomplished those goals! Christine
has retired from the Humane Society. She continues to help at her own
pace.
Thank you, Christine, for caring so much for the animals!
The next RASCAL clinic will take place at the new animal shelter, in West Union, Ohio, on Thursday, June 20, 2013! Teresa McCann will be taking over the scheduling from Chris, effective immediately (please have new RASCAL clients call Teresa at 937-544-2894 for appointments).
