The Adams County Puppy Project in Ohio

The Adams County Puppy Project in Ohio: litters of pups and their mommas or abandoned pups, or ultra pregnant dogs, don't go into the pound. They go to the HS farm. They get loved and cared for, get wormed and vaccinated, and fed high quality puppy food. When they are old enough for rescue/adoption, they get posted. We have lots of approved rescues wanting healthy puppies. Lots of times, these rescues have the pups spayed/neutered at the Rascal Unit clinics that come to Adams every month or we get our local vet to do it, before they get transported. Or, the rescues S/N the pups upon arrival. These puppies and mommas would most likely get sick if they were at the pound. Most of the mommas get rescued with their pups. Most of the pups have all gone to rescue and there is room for more at the farm. There have been as many as 50! The HS also works with other shelters and takes in puppies. The Humane Society does not make a profit from the puppies. They have donations and grants that cover most expenses. Rescues often reimburse for vetting, too. We give the puppies and mommas the best chance for having a happy life. We are interested in helping your puppies!

Dogs will have another shelter in Adams County as well as the continued protection by the Adams County Dog Warden Paul Hughes, according to Adams County Humane Society reports. The new facility will also take cats, once it is operational this summer.

We want them to be loved and cared for while they wait for their new forever home!

Transporting is fun!

We always have fun doing transports! Don't get me wrong, it's work, too! Those crates must be cleaned and bleached between transports! We don't want to spread any sickness! The dogs and puppies we transport mostly come from the Adams County Dog Pound or from the Humane Society farm. Occasionally, we help other shelters. Also, transporting is not a clean job! None of our pound dogs or farm puppies have had baths! Our pound, even though the kennels do get cleaned daily, is old! The dogs get stinky! Picking up puppies from the farm, as I've talked about before, is a dirty job, especially on rainy days! But, you know what? I love getting dirty! I dress very casual. I'm ready to pick up and carry and hug all of my puppies! I wear boots to walk in the mud and puppy poo. I have plenty of paper towels, newspapers, bleach, and Lysol to clean up the pups and their crates during and after transports when they have accidents or get sick! I have plastic grocery bags and trash bags on board so I can throw the mess away at the gas stations. I have hand sanitizer to always use after cleaning or between handling puppies. Bonus rewards are playing with the puppies! I love all of the hugs and kisses I get! We overnight often, so we can get our pups on their way the next day. It's a pleasure to have them as our guests! We have helped save so many lives by transporting to vet clinics and to rescues. The puppies need to be vetted before they can travel, in most cases, or the receiving rescue takes care of the vetting upon arrival. All pups are spayed/neutered before adoption! The puppies are then put in foster homes or are boarded until the perfect home can be found for them! We often get pics of our pups from rescues and from adopters to keep us updated on how well our pups are doing! That always puts a big smile on my face! I try to post as many as I can, but sometimes I don't have all of the pics to post! Most of our transports to rescues are to the city, because we are so rural. We go to Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus. We go on longer transports occasionally. We love to try new restaurants after we deliver the pups. This is another added bonus!

We had so much fun with these two sweet puppies we kept overnight! They had fun on our front porch and in the yard. Cici, our boxer was their Nanny. It's so much fun watching her with them!

The Humane Society of Adams County Ohio Needs A New Van!!!

The Humane Society of Adams County Ohio needs a van for transport and our clinic events. Our old van has approx. 250k miles on it. The driver's side door doesn't stay shut unless it is tied to the seat. There is no heat or air. The rear door latch no longer latches. The driver's seat belt is broken, and the list goes on and on! This van has transported hundreds and hundreds of dogs to safety and vet appts. We are lost without the use of this van! We aren't looking for fancy or new, just reliable and safe. We are a 501C3 and this could be a great tax deduction for someone out there.

TOAST 3D

On this cold rainy Tuesday afternoon, I will tell you the story of my old '95 Volvo 850. We have been lucky to find and buy several cars and trucks on eBay. We drove to Pittsburgh and picked up this nice Volvo from the chef of the Harris Grill. I might add that the Rita Hayworth and the Pork Shank Redemption was exceptionally good!!! 

It's been a real good reliable car for our family. Of course, things do happen to cars that are used a lot! This picture will show you when I hit a deer on my way home from work one very foggy morning. You can see that the only damage was to the headlight! Old Volvos are like tanks, so stay out of the way, Bambi!!! I had no warning and couldn't avoid missing this poor deer!  Headlight fixed....check!

You can also see that I have a personalized license plate. It's a memorial to a couple of dear friends, Chris and Jody Bloomfield, who were killed in a car crash. We met them while we were roadies for a local metal band, Crowning Apathy. Chris played bass and Jody was a nurse. Chris started calling me Toast and soon that's what everyone called me! We helped put on an all day metal concert/benefit for Chris and Jody's 11 year old daughter. Most of us camped all night since we had a bit too much to drink. While sitting around the campfire, Thomas said I got "toasted" on the 1+ pitchers of margaritas, and laughed because my husband's name is Ed. So, we became Toast_Ed! That license plate name was already taken, so I settled for a backwards E. 

Now, that we are transporting our furry friends, we have come to rely on the old Volvo more and more, especially since our SUV is in the shop. We keep adding brake fluid and power steering fluid to keep it on the road. Then of course, the exhaust system came apart, and we had to hurry to get that fixed. The noise was deafening! Exhaust fixed....check! Now, we're waiting for a new windshield wiper motor. It decided to stop working last week, so now we can't drive in the rain or snow! UGH! 
UPDATE: Windshield wiper motor replaced and brake lines bled.....check!!!

UPDATE:2/18/2012 We got some good used parts for the Volvo. We got a rack and pinion for the steering problem and a master cylinder for the brake problem. Those are scheduled to be put on at the shop today. On the way to work this morning, we had a flat tire! So, we need tires!
UPDATE: Steering fixed....check! I forgot what good power steering was like! LOL Front tire replaced.....check!!!

Our Acura MDX is back at our local garage with the engine in pieces! We sent it to a dealer in Cincinnati to have the computer processor checked out and replaced, and the stupid mechanic stripped out a spark plug and damaged our engine. The dealership won't own up to damaging our Acura! Now, we need another engine! 

Oh how I would love to get all of our cars fixed! Even better yet, would be a nice van donation, so we can transport more of our furry friends safely!!

I'm very serious! Does anyone have a good used van to donate to us? We're going to try to win one with the Toyota give away. I don't know how our chances of winning will be. We're looking into it. In the mean time, we would love to hear from anyone with a generous soul and love for helping animals to contact us and give generously. We've had to turn down so many transports recently and we just want to get back on the road again!
